Pelham City Schools has received a score of 89 on the Alabama State Report Card, marking another year of improvement following scores of 88 in 2023 and 87 in 2022. This positive trend highlights the district’s dedication to fostering student success.
Superintendent Dr. Chuck Ledbetter commented on the score, stating, “The year-over-year gains are a clear indication of the dedication, engagement and support of our educators, students, and families. Each year’s improvement reflects the hard work being done in all of our schools to build a strong educational foundation for our students.”
The report card evaluates school systems based on factors including academic achievement, growth, graduation rates, college and career readiness, and chronic absenteeism. This year’s score highlights progress in each of these areas. Notably, Pelham Oaks Elementary earned an "A" with a five-point improvement over last year and the district’s chronic absenteeism improved significantly. The other schools in the district maintained “B” grades consistent with scores in previous years.
Chief Academic Officer Robin Hollingsworth emphasized the district’s focus on supporting students at every level. “We are committed to meeting the diverse needs of our students,” she said. “By analyzing multiple data points, we set strategic goals and implement evidence-based instruction to support all students and help each school reach its full potential.”
In addition to classroom instruction, Pelham City Schools implements a variety of academic supports, such as after-school tutoring, reading and math intervention programs, high school learning labs, and mentoring initiatives for at-risk students. Teachers engage in professional development and collaborate across grade levels to align curriculum and instructional practices, ensuring effective learning environments.
Dr. Ledbetter highlighted the district’s broader vision, stating, “While the state report card is one way to measure success, it’s important to celebrate the many achievements that contribute to developing well-rounded and prepared students. From excellence in academics, arts, and athletics to character building and community engagement, our teachers and students are dedicated to many aspects of learning and growth.” He went on to say, “We are encouraged by the positive trends we see and look forward to building on this momentum in the years ahead.”
