The Pelham Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Keri Johnson as Superintendent of Pelham City Schools.
Most recently, Dr. Johnson led the Tuscaloosa County School System, where she has served as Superintendent since 2020. She brings 27 years of experience in public education, with previous service as a teacher and administrator in Oxford City, Shelby County, and Alabaster City Schools.
Board of Education President Robert Plummer said the Board was impressed by the caliber of candidates who applied during the search process.
“Throughout this search process, our Board was fortunate to consider a number of highly qualified candidates. After much thought and consideration, we determined that Dr. Johnson’s experience, leadership style, and vision for public education make her the right fit for this moment in our school system’s journey,” Plummer said.
He added, “Dr. Johnson’s commitment to building strong relationships with students, families, educators, and the broader community aligns closely with the values of Pelham City Schools. We believe she will bring tremendous energy and expertise to our district and help us build on the strong foundation already in place.”
Dr. Johnson said she is eager to begin her work in Pelham and to connect with students, families, and staff. “This community’s strong commitment to education is inspiring. I look forward to building on Pelham’s strong tradition and leading with collaboration, vision, and care,” Johnson said.
Johnson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Jacksonville State University, a Master’s in Special Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Montevallo, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Samford University. She also teaches graduate-level special education courses at the University of Alabama, serves on the State of Alabama Accountability Taskforce, and founded LeadHERship Alabama, the state’s first network for women superintendents.
She and her husband, Chris, have three children: Emily, a law student at Washington & Lee University; Abby, Coordinator of Marketing at Morrell Engineering; and Will, a student at the University of Alabama.
Pelham City Schools will host Meet & Greet opportunities in the near future for employees, students, families, and community members to welcome Dr. Johnson. Details will be announced soon.
