Pelham City Schools is pleased to welcome Dr. Dorann Tanner as the school system’s new Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, a role designed to support the continued growth and coordination of services for students and families. Dr. Tanner joins Assistant Superintendents Floyd Collins and Kim Kiel on the Pelham City Schools leadership team.

Dr. Tanner brings more than twenty years of experience in education and social work. Most recently, she served as the Chief Student Services Officer for Alabaster City Schools, where she helped guide efforts that contributed to a 99% graduation rate and supported comprehensive student services across the system. Her experience leading student services, combined with her background in counseling and school social work, gives her valuable perspective on the areas she will support in Pelham.

Superintendent Dr. Keri Johnson said Dr. Tanner’s combination of experience and commitment will serve Pelham well, sharing that “with her blend of professional insight, mental health expertise, and steadfast dedication to students, Dr. Tanner represents the very best of educational leadership.” She added that “Dr. Tanner’s leadership reflects both skill and heart,” highlighting the value she brings to Pelham.

In her new role, Dr. Tanner will oversee mental health supports, student discipline, extra-curricular activities, counseling, special education, student health services, Title IX, accountability, residency, and attendance. These areas play a role in many students’ day-to-day experiences, and this position helps align the work already happening across the system.

Dr. Tanner is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has earned several state and national recognitions, including National School Social Worker of the Year and Alabama Communicator of the Year.

Looking ahead to her work in Pelham, Dr. Tanner shared, “It is an honor to join the remarkable leadership team at Pelham City Schools. With the inspiring dedication and commitment of our Board, educators, students, and community, the system is poised to become one of Alabama’s best, and I’m so blessed for the opportunity to be a part of the journey.”
