Through a partnership with the City of Pelham and the Shelby County Legislative Delegation, Pelham City Schools kindergarten students are gaining hands-on experience learning to ice skate at the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena.
For the second year, Kindergarten students from Pelham Ridge Elementary School and Pelham Oaks Elementary School had the opportunity to step onto the ice and learn the basics of skating at the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena as part of their physical education curriculum.
For many of the students, it was their first time ever stepping onto the ice. Through Skate School, students were introduced to the fundamentals of skating while developing balance, coordination, and confidence in a fun and supportive environment.
Kindergarten students participated in three skating sessions over the course of two months, allowing them to build on the skills they learned each time they returned to the rink. With guidance from Pelham Civic Complex instructors, students practiced basic techniques and gradually grew more comfortable moving across the ice.
This unique opportunity is made possible through collaboration with the City of Pelham, the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena, and the Shelby County Legislative Delegation.
Experiences like this are a great example of what makes Pelham special, as students learn new skills and enjoy trying something new right here in their own community.
