Pelham City Schools Superintendent Dr. Keri Johnson and Pelham High School Principal Sabrina Tutchtone recently participated in an immersive learning experience with the 117th Air Refueling Wing at Sumpter Smith Joint National Guard Base.

Educators and school counselors from across central and north Alabama flew aboard a KC-135R Stratotanker, experienced the boom simulator, and toured key areas of the base—gaining firsthand insight into the day-to-day operations of this Birmingham-based unit.

Experiences like this strengthen connections between education and real-world careers while highlighting leadership, teamwork, and service. We're grateful to the 117th Air Refueling Wing for welcoming our educators and sharing their mission.

Today, the Pelham High School Band Wind Ensemble takes the stage at the Alabama Music Educators Association Conference as one of only three featured ensembles selected statewide.

Chosen through a blind selection process, these students exemplify musical excellence for music educators from across Alabama. Their performance, Hearts Touch With Fire, reflects months of dedication, creativity, and hard work—both in and out of the classroom.
